Gorgeous Red

This gorgeous is a school.
I could not believe that first. I thought, it might be a church, a libary, a museum or a governmental building...After I found out that it is a school, I looked it up on Internet and find out, that it is a high school, completed at 1881 and has around 50-55 Greek students recently.
And it is a boy school !
How sad is that...
It looks over the Golden Horn, has a spectacular view...

Spectacular building. A bit large for 55 students?

Per, yes it is indeed. They are having difficult time to find new students. Not a lot of Greek's anymore in Istanbul. They moved...

I see. That would explain it. Sad. Let's hope the trend is reversed.

Another beautiful, old building! Your city seems to have so many. Looks like an interesting collection of buildings in the foreground too.

Those are some very lucky students! I wish I could spend a few hours drinking in this beautiful structure. That red is addictive! There's something about old red brick that's just totally unforgettable.

Thanks for sharing this stunning building with us.

Beautiful. Here in the Northeastern US we have some nice red brick structures, too.
Unfortunatesly, there was a rush to tear them down in the past. What is left, we are trying to preserve.

that is interesting - I don't know if i would want to go to a school that only had all boys - that would be real downer but what an impressive looking facility - I will have to read up on the Greeks role in Turkish history - I'm learning more about Turkey everyday thanks to you =)

Do female students in Turkey have the same freedom as male students? Perhaps they are suppressed???

I'm struck by the symmetry of the building!

Oya said...

M. benaut, yes they have the freedom.
