A Regular Visitor

Mr. Miaow, is a regular visitor now.
He comes to my door, 2 or 3 times a day.
He is so insisting. He even sits at the couch with me.
Of course Ollie goes jealous and barks like crazy.
It's been fun lately, will see what happens, between
me, my dog baby and this new friend of ours...
I never had a cat, I don't know how to treat them. And having a dog at home makes it even more difficult.
Any ideas on how I can take care of both of them?
Or can I ?

First of all, how will you make your new cat feel at home? Will he/she have it's own sink? Cat's tend to have a certain air about them and they like their stuff. But, no need to go to war. Dog and cat may have their close calls, but there are moments when love (tolerance may be a better word) abounds.

BTW, Kitty on leopard, very nice.

Jules, I really do not know what to. Right now, when he is hungry or cold, he comes to the door, miaouws with his big mouth. I took him in, feed him and watch both of them. Sometimes he sleeps little bit and goes to the door, wants to go out again. Will se, where it goes. Ollie, sometimes she barks, sometimes she ignores him:)

Cat's are typically independent, while dog's are more dependent. This cat seams to be testing you out as a potential servant (that's just how cat's see us humans). If you should pass this test . . .

I have always had cats. One right now, but as many as 5. And dogs, one right now that I've been looking after for my brother since he's been out of the county since 2004. But though I have never personally owned a dog, growing up we have had between 2 - 5 at a time.

Having said all this, I do purr furr cats for their independence and attitude. Dogs do give much more devotion, but they're just too needy for me (at this point in my life).

You have got an interesting situation :)
If your dog gets used to this cat, everything is ok, but when your dog will realize, that this place is his/her home, then I don`t know, how it will be.
Our dog came about three years old so angry with cats, that she goes grazy only seeing them far away. It was after that, when Kiki started to play with a cat and this scratched her.
Good luck with both of your friends!

Jules centered the point Oya. He's testing you and the environment (the dog) but something in what you say is telling me he has taken his decision and he assumed you and your home at his service. Mao did the same with me. I suggest to let the animals (cat and dog in this case) do what they feel to do time on time.

that is such an interesting story - you must have a very warm and inviting house for the cat to come by so often - your dog is also very understanding considering this stranger just comes by - funny - and interesting - hope it all works out!

All the dog needs is a swag in the face by the cat. Then everyone knows who is the Queen in the house. :-)

Dogs and cats can totally live together, though it's easier when they've been raised together.

Mr. Miaow is a very handsome cat. He has already accepted you and your home, at least as a daily stopping place. Depending on his age and how street-wise he is, it may never develop much beyond that or he may begin spending longer periods inside, perhaps even sleeping there at night.

The cat does not seem intimidated by Ollie, so no problems there. To reassure your dog that she is being supplemented, not replaced, you might try giving her extra attention when the cat is there and just after he is left. She may never like him too well, but she can learn to tolerate him.

Meggins, thanks for your long and informative post. It's been warm last 3 or 4 days, so the cat does not show up anymore. But he is always welcomed of course:) I will update.
