Mosque in Eyup

This is Eyup Mosque. It is located in Golden Horn.
It is a very popular, old mosque.
People are coming from all around Turkey to pray here.

when u look at the larger image, its amazing how blube abd clear the sky is - the mosque looks very complex in design - it would be interesting to see how the inside looks.

Have you heard the phrase 'don't judge a book by it's cover'? The same could be said about architecture. On the outside you see simple shapes, very little color, heavy/massive stone work. Yet once inside, it's like nothing you had imagined. Have you been inside? What is it like? I imagine dark with lot's of candles and plain walls, but I've been happily wrong before. When I was in Paris in 2005 I lost count on the number of churches I visited and was amazed at the grandeur of the interiors, in awe really.

I have been inside, it has lot of tile work and glass work. It is amazing. Mostly ( since people are praying) , cameras are not welcomed. I will try next time...

I am sorry to be so late. I wish to congratulate you on your 100th posting. Your blog has brought back so many good memories of your your beautiful city. I have especially loved your shots of Taksim and all those taken around the water. There is so much to see and remember about Istanbul. I love this mosque photo. Thank you for all the good work you are doing, in showing us Istanbul.

The window arches in the mosques is gorgeous. I love the details of it.

My coworker is going to Istanbul this summer. She promised to take a lot of photos.
